Smart City WiFi Analytics

IQ data deployed IQ WiFi analytics across 500 WiFi access points as part of a wider Smart City initiative. The solution provided seamless WiFi access to the island's visitors, whilst powering numerous IoT sensors located across urban areas. The WiFi access points were transformed into vital data collection points that fueled deeper insights into pedestrian footfall, profiles and other behaviors.

What was the challenge?

As part of a wider Smart City initiative, the host city built an artificial island with an area of 4 square kilometers providing over 500 WiFi access points in support of thousands of visitors and residents every day. The island aims to provide the latest Internet of Things (IoT) sensors deployed across urban areas offering residents and visitors alike with full connectivity via seamless WiFi access which in turn provides insights and analytics to power Smart City planning and marketing.

What was the strategy?

IQ data deployed IQ WiFi analytics across all 500 access points throughout the island. In addition to enabling easy WiFi access to the island's visitors and powering other IoT sensors, the data captured would provide deeper insights into pedestrian footfall, profiles and other behaviors. The WiFi user data would also enhance wider CRM activities by collaborating with the island's retailers and F&B outlets.

What were the results?

The Smart City experiences tens of thousands of WiFi logins every day. The average WiFi user would spend 80 minutes online and visit at least 2 zones across the island. The location data captured fueled a deeper understanding of zonal footfall which enabled better retail and traffic planning. Specific public areas on the island were redesigned as a result of the data analysis, whilst the CRM database has grown by over 100,000 retail/F&B customers.
